Deep River Nature Preserve

Location: West of I-65 on US 30 about 4.3 miles to Randolph St.; then north to Old Lincoln way, turn east and go a mile to the Nature Center.

Description: Not Visited. Partly dense woods, partly wetland; has some of Indiana's many rare orchids. If you are visiting northwest Indiana, you might as well get a little break in; the rest of the area is pretty industrial, although Gary itself is an interesting city striving to come back from the collapse of the big steel mills a few decades back.  Drop some money there while you're in the area.

Nearby Points of Interest: Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore; Indiana Dunes State Park; Little Calumet-Langeluttig Swamp; and Valparaiso, the birthplace of yours truly (no monuments exist yet).

Cautions: Not known.

Ownership: Lake County Parks and Recreation Department
