Buzzard Roost Nature Preserve

or Babcock's Mill Gravel Wash Barrens

Location: From State Road 64 at Milltown, take the Leavenworth Road (CR23) south 2 miles; turn east (left) on Blue River Road (CR25); follow this as it turns for about a mile and a half and turn left on East Mt. Lebanon Road (CR 162) at the Mount Lebanon Church. (You may want to pause here and pray for guidance). Follow this for .8 mile and follow the turn to the south for about .4 mile, looking for a metal gate and parking area.

Description: Not Visited although I did canoe past it once. In the middle of a horseshoe bend in the Blue River (one of Indiana's prettiest canoeing streams), it has several gravel wash prairies along the river's edge, which are described as sand and gravel areas with prairie plants growing on them. Makes sense. There are some steep hills and a bluff overlooking the river; some areas heavily wooded.

Nearby Points of Interest: Harrison-Crawford State Forest; Wyandotte Caves; Carnes Mill; Hemlock Cliffs.
