Whitewater Memorial State Park

Location: From Richmond, 23 miles south on US 27, then west at the junction with SR 44 and south again almost immediately on SR 101; park entrance is on the west side of 101.

Description: This is another damn park with a lake. I guess you have to expect a fascination with water in such a landlocked state, but how many is this? Seven or more? Partially saved from scorn by some decent hiking trails and the Hornbeam Nature Preserve within the boundaries of the park. It didn't impress me on my single trip there twenty years ago, but I might try it again just to see if it has changed; it was relatively new when I visited. (P.S., never mind - it hasn't changed).

Nearby Points of Interest: Mounds State Recreation Area. The Whitewater River itself is supposed to be a good canoeing river.

Cautions: Potentially boring. Visit at your own risk.

Ownership: Indiana DNR
