Prophetstown State Park

Location: Located north of Lafayette on Canal Road, with access from I-65 via south US 43 to the first road to the left after the exit.

Description: This is a "recreated" natural area, not a preserved one. I would say that there isn't much in the way of spectacular scenery, but there should be some pleasant hikes. The main attraction here, in my opinion, will be what seems to be shaping up as a really serious attempt to understand and describe the native americans of the region from the prehistoric through the Battle of Tippecanoe era. This is an honor that is long overdue, particularly in an area centered on the Tippecanoe Battlefield and its phallic monument to the dead of the white army. There is also a recreation of a farmstead of the early 1900's. There is a nice prairie segment being replanted here. This just opened in the summer of 2004.

Nearby Points of Interest: This is my stomping ground, so indulge me. Check out Clegg Gardens, Spinn Prairie, Celery Bog and the Wabash Heritage Trail.

Cautions:  I don't think so.
