Brown County State Park

Location: East of Bloomington or west of Columbus on State Road 46. Description: Not visited (believe it or not). This is one of Indiana's most famous, largest and popular state parks. Its main claim to fame is as the region's center of fall foliage observation, and as the locale of many bad (and a few good) fall landscape paintings. However, there is an extensive trail system, and the heavily wooded area really is beautiful. Nearby Points of Interest: Yellowood State Forest, Morgan Monroe State Forest, Hoosier National Forest (Charles Deam Wilderness Area); college town of Bloomington. Cautions: I wouldn't go anywhere near the area on a weekend during the "fall foliage viewing season", when traffic backs up for miles and miles with people out in their cars to gawk at "Nature". Visit in the spring, or on weekdays in the fall. Ownership: Indiana DNR
