WMTA stands for the parent organization, the Wellness Massage Therapy Association.

Our organization has some concepts that differ somewhat from the perception that most people hold of massage therapy. We believe that if you are only interested in massage as a way to make money, you probably don’t belong in the business. For reasons that you would learn, professional massage is a complex mind and body function that only works well if you sincerely care about helping the recipient. We have a client first policy that precludes all other considerations except the safety of the staff. We emphasize medical massage rather than a pampering service. We work hard to bring current medical practice and complimentary medicine together. Many in alternative medicine disdain the western medical doctor. We feel that this is counter productive, short sighted, and potentially harmful to our clients. We need the excellent diagnostic and surgical technologies available in todays medical field. The health care field needs preventative medicine and much more hands on assessment. We feel that the combination of current medical practice and complimentary medicine is important to the future of health care.

Our program involves 750 class hours. This is 15 hours per week for 50 weeks.

100 hours anatomy

100 hours physiology

300 hours massage therapy and practice

5 hours first aid

5 hours ethics

240 hours other aspects of massage therapy, business development, other modalities, promotion, advertising, out reach and others. Our classes are small. We have one basic instructor, two graduate assistants and 40-45 Doctors and guest lecturers during the year. We encourage students to participate in our additional educational opportunities after graduation. No matter how good your initial schooling, you will need continuing education to remain at the top of the field. We are in the process of expanding the school program substantially with a new location in the Lafayette area. This will allow us to develop inexpensive educational programs and conferences for the greater Lafayette area as well as the surrounding states, more research programs, and more influence in directing the industry to higher standards of excellence.
