Strange Fate

by Maurice Luckett

I have walked with angels

Through the shining light

And seen the Earth from beyond the clouds.

I’ve touched the skies with ivory wings

And witnessed tomorrow’s coming

While racing the winds to Heaven’s heights.

I have marched with the Saints through the doors

To the barren crossroads

And seen the wandering spirits lingering

At the journey’s end.

The epitaph reads Strange Fate

For the lives short-lived

So the raven cries

For souls who have no home.
