The Mural Art Initiative is a collaborative educational outreach program that serves Greater Lafayette area at-risk and underserved youth populations. The three primary objectives of this multi-faceted program are to: beautify community areas vandalized by graffiti, visually promote the clear benefit of arts in our community, and provide a life-long positive impact on all project participants.
The first Mural Art Project was initiated in the spring of 2008 as a collaboration between Tippecanoe Arts Federation, Cary Home for Children and the City of Lafayette Parks Department. The first location that was identified for the project was the Twyckenham Bridge Underpass. The specific project location consists of Tippecanoe Arts Federation staff and other volunteer artists working with Cary Home youth in the creation of a multi-themed mural.
Tippecanoe Arts Federation recognizes the increasing value of Public Art to the "Quality of Life" in the Greater Lafayette Community. To help increase awareness of the vast amount of Public Art that is located in Tippecanoe County, TAF has developed a Public Art Map where residents and visitors may view public art in the cities of Lafayette and West Lafayette and in the surrounding counties.
