Angie
Runyan for her comforting letter. |
To Bryans Family, My name is Angie Runyan. My sister and I were heading
back from Lafayette and witnessed Bryans accident. I have put a lot of thought
into what I am writing to you in hopes that it will bring some kind of comfort.
As I said we saw Bryans truck veer off to the left and through the cornfield
and roll 3-4 times. We were only ¼-1/8 mile away from him and when we got to his
side he was somewhat still incoherent. I got down beside him and stroked his face
and told him to wake up and when he did wake up my sister and I were beside him
and also another couple who called 911. We got him blankets and covered him up
also with coats. I got down beside him and had his face in my hands. I continually
stroked his face or held his hands. He told me his name was Bryan, also his fathers
name and phone #, which we gave to the 911 operator. I asked him if he was warm
and he said he was. I asked him if he was in pain and he said he could not feel
from the chest down. I want you to know that Bryan was very calm and very brave.
He stayed focused on my eyes and what I was saying. When the paramedics arrived
to take him to the hospital, I remember thinking I would go to the hospital in
a couple of days and visit him. I was shocked and grieved for Bryan and you his
family when I heard of his death. My intent in writing this is not to make you
cry or bring you more pain. It was to let you know that Bryan was warm, not in
pain and that we were holding and comforting him. I will never know why my path
crossed with Bryan that night but in those moments I spent with him I could tell
he was very special. I will never forget Bryan- I crossed paths with him on my
birthday. I pray God will give you comfort always! Sincerely, Angie
