Emogene J. "Jean" Young

Emogene J. "Jean" Young, 76, of Brookston, died Monday, August 4, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette.

She was born on August 24, 1926, in Attica to Walter and Jessie Beaver.

She married Lloyd Silverthorn Jr. March 5, 1969 in Otterbein, IN. He died on August 11, 1970. She later married Melvin A. Young Sr., on October 1, 1983, in West Point. He died August 18, 1995.

She attended church at the Indiana Veterans' Home Chapel.

She was retired after 28 years of nursing from the Indiana Veterans' Home in West Lafayette. Previously she had worked for two years at the Attica Cap Factory.

She loved caring for others through her time at the Veterans' Home. She was really fond of Elvis Presley.

Survivors include step-children, James (Jerry) Young of Flint Mich., Melvin A. Young of Millington, Mich., Ruth (Matt) Cassidy of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Carolyn (Terry) Young-Kruse of Linden, Mich.; four step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were two sisters Adrienne Sheridan and Queata Earle.

Funeral services were Thursday, August 7, 2003, at the Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston with Rev. Cleo Ewing officiating.

Burial was at the Green Bay Cemetery in Newtown.
