Jack "Woody" Woodruff

Jack "Woody" Woodruff, 72, of Monticello died Monday, July 8, 2002 at his home. He had been ill for several months.

He was born September 2, 1929 in Bluffton, the son of Earl and Ethel Harden Woodruff. He married Jane Vick on January 28, 1956 in Kingsford Heights, IN. She survives.

A former teacher, coach and athletic director he spent most of his life working with athletes. Woody started his coaching career in Hanna, IN in 1953-54. He was then drafted into the Army and served his country from 1954-1956.

He coached in Reynolds from 1956 — 1962, then moved on to Monon in 1962 and was there for a year. From 1963 — 1965 he was at North White. He then coached at Francesville from 1965-1967. He was at Twin Lakes from 1967 - 1991 until his retirement. In November 1993 he returned to North White as the athletic director and administrative assistant until his retirement in 1999.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion, and Moose Lodge all of Monticello. Woody worked at Indiana Beach for several summers.

In May 2002, North White named their athletic complex "The Jack Woodruff Athletic Complex" Hoffman Field.

In 1999 Katie Wolf awarded Woody the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest honor bestowed in the State of Indiana.

Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Jill Sink, Monticello; a son, Jeff (Mary Jo) Woodruff of Monticello; a sister Beulah Brinneman of Bluffton and four grandchildren, Chad & Jay Sink and Kyle and Blake Woodruff. One sister, Maxine Stukey preceded him in death.

Visitation will be at the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home in Monticello from 4 — 8 p.m. on Thursday and from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home with Rev. James R. Copeland officiating.

Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the North White Athletic Department, Monticello United Methodist Church or St. Elizabeth Hospice Program.
