Helen M. Vedo Whitney, 85, formerly of Brookston and West Lafayette, died Thursday, Oct. 12, at Regency Place, Lafayette. She had been a resident there since September.
She was born March 21, 1910, to Michael and Mary Hanishan Vedo in Hines, Iowa.
She was married Jan. 10, 1937, to Tom W. Whitney in Frankfort, Kentucky. He died Feb. 12, 1972.
She retired in 1970 from the U.S. Postal Service.
She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, West Lafayette, the St. Rita Circle, NARFE, AARP and the Women of the Moose in Indianapolis.
Survivors include a son, Tom William Whitney, Marietta, Georgia; a daughter, Mary Comus Suddarth; Sherwood, Oregon; two sisters, Vernie Dienes, Crown Point and Dorothy Oliphint, Dixon, Tenn.; and five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Four sisters and three brothers are deceased.
A funeral
mass was held Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, West Lafayette,
with
Father
David Douglas officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge
of service.
A graveside service was conducted at noon at Crown Hill Cemetery, West Lafayette.
