James E. "Jim" Whiteman Sr., 82, of Monticello died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at White County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Lockport in Carroll County on August 23, 1920, to Fred and Esther Hitchens Whiteman. He married Christine Harper at the old Christian Church in Monticello on December 17, 1944. She survives.
He lived in the Monticello community most of his life.
He was a custodian at the White County Courthouse and White County Building for 24 years.
He was a 58-year member of the Monticello Christian Church, and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years.
He was a member of the Monticello Eagles Lodge. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts, serving as a Scout Leader and supporter.
He loved entertaining and making children happy by p1aying a clown for several years. He loved gardening and selling pumpkin blossoms.
Other survivors include daughters Rebecca (Wayne) Hunt, Carlotta Sue (Dick) Norris, both of Monticello, and Ruth (Ron) Seidel of Buffalo; sons, James E. "Jimmy" (Huisuk) Whiteman, Jr., and Daniel "Danny" (Bobi) Whiteman both of Monticello; a brother Herbert (Zelma) Whiteman of Idaville; a sister, Nettie C. Criswell of Idaville; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Three grandchildren are deceased.
A private family burial was held on Monday, with Miller-Roscka Funeral Home in charge. Rev. Chris Dodson officiated.
