Cecil "Bud" Westerhouse, 82, of Buffalo, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at his residence.
He was born in Medaryville on October 30, 1923, to Samuel Earl and Mary (Bell) Westerhouse.
He married Beverly "Bev" Tilton in Buffalo on September 23, 1946. She survives.
He had lived in Liberty Township since 1928, where he attended both Sitka and Buffalo schools until it was necessary to care for the family farm after his fathers' [sic] death in 1939.
He was an active community member, helping establish the White County 4-H Fairgrounds, Pulaski-White RTC, Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department and White County REMC.
During his lifetime, he served on the Liberty Township School Board for eight years and as a White County Councilman for 16 years. He was also active in the White County Pork Producers and White County Soil Conservation.
Working with Purdue University in 1969-1970, he designed and managed the first total hog confinement building in Liberty Township. He was awarded the Prairie Farmer Master Farmer Award in 1976.
He and his wife Bev purchased their first RV in 1964 and started traveling the United States. They visited every state with the exception of two — Washington and Oregon. They also visited Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and Mexico.
He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music. His hobbies were cutting wood and coon hunting.
Other survivors include sons, Larry Westerhouse, Richard "Dick" (Toni) Westerhouse and Roger (Mary) Westerhouse, all of the Buffalo area; daughter Karen Robinson, Royse City, Texas, sister, Lilith Keplar, Tucson, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Sisters Alice Boatwright and Beatrice Huffman, and brothers, George and Charles Westerhouse, are deceased.
Funeral services were Saturday at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Dodson officiating.
Burial was in Buffalo Cemetery.
