William C. Ware, 69, Monticello, died unexpectedly at 1:44 p.m. Monday in Pulaski Memorial Hospital at Winamac.
He was born April 23, 1920, to Claire "Bud" and Ruth Ricketts Ware, in Covington. He was married in 1941 to Lillian May Davis in Lebanon. She survives.
He was a member and past deacon of Monticello Christian Church. He was a life member and past commander of Monticello American Legion Post No. 81. He was a life member of both the Monticello VFW and DAV. He was a Boy Scout leader for 15 years with Troop No. 28.
He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Signal Corps in the European Theater. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star while in combat.
He lived in the Monticello area for 45 years. He retired from the White County REMC in 1984 after 39 years of service. He was a past president of the Superintendents' Association of the REA.
Surviving with his wife and mother, are three sons; William 0. Ware, West Lafayette; Jerry L Ware, Logansport and James F Ware, Monticello; one daughter, Beverly A. Hampton, Monticello; four brothers, Joe, Dugger; Jack, Tuscon, Ark; Eugene, Excellsior Springs and Larry, Attica; two sisters, Helen Hunt, Corydon, Tenn.; Patricia Ware, West Lebanon and eight grandchildren. One brother is deceased.
Funeral was today at 2 p,m. in Miller-Voorhis Funeral Home with military graveside rites.
