Howard W. "Red" Walker, 80, 206 High School Ave., Battle Ground, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 9:50 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. He had been a patient since Jan. 24th.
He was born Aug. 13, 1912, to Charles and Lizzie Hibbs Walker, in Gifford. He was married Sept. 7, 1940, to Laura Kathryn Hauptli in Rensselaer, and she survives.
He lived for the last 35 years in Battle Ground.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the 733rd Railway Operating Engineering Batallion.
He retired in 1972, as a crane operator. He worked for 35 years with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 103.
Also surviving is a son, James, Lafayette; a daughter, Mrs Ed (Janet) Fields, Elkhart; a brother, Vincent, Hammond; a sister, Mrs Marge Maxwell, Rockledge, FL.; and two grandchildren. One brother and sister are deceased.
The funeral was conducted Saturday, Jan. 30, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev Lewis Ruman officiating.
Burial was in the Battle Ground Cemetery.
