Donald E. Vollmer, 73, Francesville, died Monday, March 22, 2004, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
He was born at Francesville on February 24, 1931, to William and Emma Etta Moose Vollmer. He married Lois A. Sanders at Monticello on July 29, 1956. She survives.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a plumbing and heating contractor and the retired co-owner of Francesville Plumbing and Heating. He had been in business with Richard Tiede, then with Dewane Skalon in Francesville for more than 35 years.
He was a member of the St. James-Salem United Church of Christ in Francesville and had served the church as treasurer. He was a member of F&AM 208 in Francesville He was also a member of American Legion Post 228 in Francesville.
He enjoyed landscaping, gardening and working part time and sharing coffee time with his buddy, Bob Voilmer.
Other survivors include sons, Scott (Cathy) Voilmer of Francesville and Brian Joe Vollmer of Rochester; sisters, Delores (Bill) Becich of Manteno, Ill., and Alberta Ludeman of Francesville; a sister-in-law, Madonna Vollmer of West Lafayette; and grandchildren, Nick, Lindley, Caity, Luke and Lois.
A sister, Carol Vollmer and brothers Gordon Vollmer and Leonard Vollmer are deceased.
Services were on Saturday at the St. James-Salem United Church of Christ, in Francesville with Pastor Laszlo Kovac officiating.
Burial with military graveside rites was at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.
Memorials may be made to St. James-Salem United Church of Christ.
Frain Mortuary in Winamac was in charge of services.
