Rev. L Earl Vaughn

Rev. Z. Earl Vaughn moved on Friday, March 11, 2005, from his home in Muncie to his home in Heaven.

He graduated from high school in Detroit, MI, was a radio operator with the Coast Guard during World War II, and was a graduate of Samford University, Birmingham, AL, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY.

Rev. Vaught [sic] pastored churches in Monon and Sullivan before moving to Muncie in 1962 to pastor the Walnut Street Baptist Church. The church relocated in 1972 and [was] renamed Shawnee Heights Baptist Church. Rev Vaughn pastored the congregation for 27 years retiring in 1939. He was pastor emeritus of the church. His travels included Nicaragua, El Salvador, Israel, Egypt, Europe, England and Alaska.

Rev. Vaughn was a member of Old Town Hill Southern Baptist Church. He was a 33rd degree Mason and a member of Delaware Lodge #46 F.&AM; an honorary member of the Grand Lodge of the State of Indiana was [sic] state chaplain for the Masons in Indiana for 14 years. He was secretary and president of the state Baptist ministers and president of the Muncie Ministerial Association. He was Grand Chaplain emeritus of Freemasonry in the State of Indiana. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis, the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, and the Kiwanis Club.

Rev. Vaughn leaves behind his wife, Faye, of 56 years, two children, Melanie (Stuart) Kelly of Noblesville and Raymond (Kathleen) Vaughn of Butler, PA. There are three grandchildren, William Kelly, Laura Vaughn, and Christopher Vaughn.

Funeral services were Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Shawnee Heights Baptist Church. Burial fo1lowed in Beech Grove Cemetery with Meeks Mortuary and Crematory in charge of arrangements.
