Stella M. VanVoorst

Stella M. (Cisan) VanVoorst, 91, a former Chalmers resident, died Monday, September 17, 2001 at Twin Lakes Village, Monticello. She had resided at the village since December 27, 1999.

She was born in Cleveland on October 15, 1909. To Joseph Peter and Frances Rochnowski Cisan. She married Robert Ellsworth Vanvoorst in Cleveland on April 26, 1930. He died February 20, 1975.

She was a 1926 graduate of Miami (Fla.) High School.

She and her husband owned Van's Market in Chalmers for 31 years. She later worked as a housekeeper at the Grad House at Purdue University.

She was a member of the Chalmers American Legion Auxiliary, Lafayette Eagles Aerie 347 and was a charter member of the Chalmers Civic Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Nona (Walter) Decker of Fishers and Alice Harrison of Sparta, N.J.; two sons Robert J. VanVoorst and Roger L. (Gladys) VanVoorst, both of Monticello; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A brother, five sisters, three grandchildren and a great-grandchild are deceased.

Funeral Services were Saturday at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Pastor Bill Henderson officiating.

Burial was at the Chalmers Community Cemetery.
