Ernest Sluyter VanVoorst, 98, of Monticello and formerly of Reynolds died Monday, April 2, 2001 in White County Memorial Hospital, in Monticello.
He was born August 5, 1902 in West Point Township, the son William E. and Mary Ann Wilson VanVoorst. He married Edna Nalley in Lafayette on December 21, 1921 and she survives. The couple celebrated their 79th wedding anniversary this past December.
A retired farmer he had farmed in West Point Twp. And west of Cbalmers. He was also a Field Supervisor and board member for ASCS.
He was a member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church and a 50+ year member of White County Farm Bureau - former Advisory Board member in West Point Twp. For 16 years.
He is survived by his wife, two sons; Russell Eugene VanVoorst of Reynolds and Virgil Wayne VanVoorst of Brookston; two daughters, Wilma Ann (Paul) Geisler, Idaville; Ruth Marie (Dempeter) Martin, Reynolds and a sister-in-law, Stella VanVoorst of Monticello.
He had 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren and 21 step great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A son, William Lloyd VanVoorst three sisters, three brothers, three grandsons, and one great-grandchild preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chalmers Community Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Reynolds United Church or the American Cancer Society.
