Ralph B. Vannatta Jr., 83, Monticello, died Friday, Oct. 13, at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, Lafayette, following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 17, 1912, to Ralph B. Vannatta Sr. and Bernice Vannatta, in Carroll County. He was married May 5, 1939, to Caroline I. Irelan, in Monticello and she died June 28, 1991.
He lived in the Idaville and Monticello area all his life. He graduated in 1930 from Monticello High School.
He operated the Standard Station in Idaville for several years. He was a deputy sheriff for White County for many years.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the Eastlawn United Methodist Church.
Survivors are a son, Ralph B. "Butch" Vannatta III of Carmel; and tnree granddaughters, Darcy and Lindsey of Carmel and Kristen of Bloomington. Two sisters are deceased.
The funeral was Monday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with the Rev. Amos McGinnis officiating.
Burial was in the Idaville Cemetery, with military rites.
