Mary Jean 'Rusty' VanMeter

Mary Jean "Rusty" VanMeter, 64, R.5, Monticello, died unexpectedly, Friday morning, Jan. 29, in the emergency room of St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, Lafayette.

She was born Jan. 18, 1929, to John and Maude Temple Pearson, in Carroll County. She was married July 24, 1949, to Marion H. "Butch" VanMeter, in Wolcott. He died Jan. 11, 1983.

She graduated from Wolcott High School, in 1947, and had lived in White and Carroll counties all her life.

She was a member of the Chalmers Community Church and a Contact-HELP volunteer.

Surviving are a son, Terry J. of Muncie; two daughters; Lorraine K, West Lafayette and Mrs Martin (Rebecca) Cotterman, Lafayette; one brother, Ralph Pearson, of Gulf Breeze, FL.; three sisters; Opal Collins, Idaville; Betty Taskey and Wilma Roehl, both of Monticello; and eight grandchildren. Two brothers are deceased.

The funeral was Monday in Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with the Rev. Loren A. Schuman officiating.

Burial was in IOOF Riverview Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association and Chalmers Community Church.
