Wayne A. Utley

Wayne A. Utley, 62, Brookston, died Tuesday, July 8 at 5:45 p.m. at home.

He was born Dec. 26, 1934, to Theodore S. and Alice Bowles Utley, in Lafayette. His mother survives, and lives in Brookston.

His first marriage was to Mary Drake, in 1958. His second marriage was June 1981, to Lila A. Lovan, in Brookston.

He was a 1953 Brookston High School graduate.

He was lead singer, played the dobro and guitar with the Moots Creek Valley Boys, a musical group formed during their high school years at Brookston.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from July 1, 1955, througb March 1, 1985. He was a Captain with the 3414th Instructor Squadron (ATC) at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss.

He was employed at Reifers, Prudential Insurance, Montgomery Ward, the former Hometown Federal, Valley Federal Savings Bank and the Bruce Harmon State Farm Insurance Agency.

He was a member of the Brookston Federated Church.

He was a member of Brookston American Legion Post No. 251, a past president and treasurer of the former Brookston Optimist Club and a member of the Brookston Lions Club.

Surviving with the wife are a son, Ted P. of Brownsburg; three daughters, Mrs Joe (Peggy L.) Spencer of Ft. Campbell, Ky.; Penny L. Davis of Brookston and Mrs Kurt (Alicia L.) Parrish of Lafayette; a stepson, David Fathman of Holland, Mich.; and a stepdaughter, Mrs Ty (Carolyn) Cooper, Lafayette; and eight grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at 10 a.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating.

Burial, with military rites performed by the American Legion, will be in the IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.

Memorials may be given to the Brookston Federated Church or the Visiting Nurse Hospice, Lafayette.
