Alice E. Bowles Utley, 94, Brookston died Wednesday, March 18, 1998 at Lafayette Home Hospital. She had been a patient there for one day.
She was born in Otterbein on December 22, 1903, to Warren and Laura Arnold Bowles. She married Theodore "Ted" Utley in Indianapolis on October 14, 1930. He died August 17, 1965.
She was a 1922 graduate of Ct terbein High School and attended Greenville (Ill.) College for one year.
She served as Brookston Town Clerk for four terms (16 years) and retired in 1975. Her husband was a barber in Brookston for 40 years.
She was a member of the Brook ston Federated Church.
She was a 65 year member of Prairie Extension Homemakers. She was also a member of Frontier and Twin Lakes Senior Citizens and a member of OES Monticello Crystal Chapter 165.
She is survived by a daughter-in- law, Lila Utley of Brookston; four grandchildren: two step-grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.
A son, a brother and a sister are deceased.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Rev. Lelan McReynolds and Rev B. James Walter officiating. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
