Hershel 'Buck' Troyer

Hershel C. "Buck" Troyer, 83, Monon, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m. in the Rensselaer Care Center, Rensselaer. He had resided at the center for one year and had been ill for 15 years.

He was born Sept. 24, 1918 to David William and Julia May Williams Troyer, in Knox. He was married Sept. 5, 1942, to Margaret E. Forsythe in Hattiesberg, Miss., and she survives.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines for four years during World War II. He was a sergeant with the 152nd Infantry-38th Division.

He was a gas service man for 40 years and was retired from NIPSCO.

He lived in Monon since 1961, coming from South Bend.

Other survivors include a son, Bruce Troyer of Monon; a daughter, Lana Lass of Erving, Texas; and five grandchildren.

Three brothers and four sisters are deceased.

Services were Friday at 1:30 in the Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev. Kenin Smith officiating.

Burial, with full military graveside rites were [sic] at the Bedford Cemetery, Monon.
