Rev. George James Thomson

        Rev. George James Thomson, Monon, died Saturday, July 8, at home. He had been in ill health for the past month.

        He was born Oct. 31, 1914, in Lockerbie, Scotland, to Thomas and Helen Copeland Thomson. His first marriage was to Doris Hamme and she died in 1964. His second marriage was Jan. 8, 1966, in Palos Hills, Ill., to Josephine Stoube and she survives.

        He served five years with the Detroit Police Department as the lieutenant of vice.  He became a minister in 1937.  He pastored churches in Ferndale, Mich.; Chicago, Palos Hills, Ill.; Chicago Ridge, Ill.; Buffalo Church of the Brethren and Goodland, Indiana.

        He conducted a weekly bible study class for 10 years at the Monticello Healthcare Center and Tioga Pines Living Center.

        He served in the Air Tech Services Command during World War II as a civilian testing airplane engines.

        He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1937. He attended the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He graduated in 1948, from the Garrett Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois.
        He moved to Monon in 1982 and was a member of the IBEW, Chicago.
        Surviving with his wife are three sons, Thomas of Kimberly, Wis.; Timothy of West Newbury, Mass and James of Coleman, Wis.; a daughter, Maralee Thomson-Yood of Silver Spring, Md.; a sister-in-law, Frances Vanscoyk of Monticello; a brother-in-law, Rev. Joseph Stoube of Dyersville, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandsons. One brother preceded him in death.
        The funeral was today at the Monon United Methodist Church, pastor Donald Newman officiating. Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, was in charge of the services.
        Burial was at the Buffalo Cemetery.
