Richard Thompson

Richard L. "Dick" Thompson, 79, of Chalmers, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at White County Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health for a year and a half.

He was born at Chalmers on January 12, 1925, the son of Richard and Helen Thompson.

He had been a Big Creek Township and White County resident all of his life.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He married Hellen [sic] G. Hendershot at Monticello on February 16, 1947, and she survives.

He was a lifetime farmer. He started farming in the 1950's with his brother and then went out on his own 10 years later.

He was a member of the Chalmers American Legion.

He liked to fish and spend time with his family.

Other survivors include sons, Larry D. (Donna) Thompson of Brookston and Robert D. (Marilyn) Thompson of Chalmers; brother Jack (Ruth) Thompson of Chalmers; sisters Lillian Johns of Idaville and Donna (Dick) Westphal of Reynolds, four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Funeral services were at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston on Monday with Rev. Bill Henderson officiating. Burial was in Chalmers Cemetery.
