Elsie Marie Briles Thomas 86, Lafyette, a former White County resident, died Sunday, June 17 at 7:15 p.m. in Rosewalk Village, Lafayette. She had resided at Rosewalk Village since 1999.
She was born March 15, 1915, to Bernard and Mary Elizabeth Hall Briles, in Scottsburg.
She had lived in White and Tippecanoe counties. She lived in Woods Edge, West Lafayette and Fairington Apartments, Lafayette.
She was employed in the housekeeping department at the Indiana Veterans Home and retired in 1984.
She was a former member of Chalmers Baptist Church.
She was a member of the Chalmers Rebekah Lodge and Monticello Eagles.
She is survived by three daughters, Doris Ann (Jim) Wagner, Brookston; Judy (Larry) Stoller, of Lowell and Carolyn (Myron) Holwerda, Latyette; a brother, Jack Briles of Okeechobee, Florida; four sisters, Bernice (Robert) LaRue of Harvey, Ill.; Mary Newlin, Lafayette; Catherine Thomas of New Port Richey, Florida and Doris Doss of Covington; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren.
An infant brother; three brothers, Fred, Sam and Glenn; and a sister, Thelma, are deceased.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds officiating.
Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brookston.
Memorials may be given to the donor's favorite charity.
