Allen B. Thayer

Allen B. Thayer, 76, Monticello died Sunday, June 18, 2000 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette.

He was born October 24, 1923 in Joliet, IL the son of J.J. and H. Maureen Alien Thayer. He married Barbara Dye in 1953. He married Shirley Dodane in 1986.

He graduated from high school in Battle creek, MI in 1941.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot during WWII. And graduated from Purdue University in 1950.

He began Thayer Paper Products in 1950 in Wolcott with his brother-in-law Glenn Hickman and his father. The business is now Indiana Ribbon, Inc.

He also directed the family farming operation and Video Stop Superstore Chain.

He had served on the Tippecanoe Country Club Board of Directors and on the Bank of Wolcott board of directors.

He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine.

He is survived by his wife; sons, James (Christine) Thayer of Monticello, and A. Robert (Dee Ann) of Crown Point; stepdaughter Catherine Cutler of Greenwood. He had four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; and one sister Aileen (Glenn) Hickman of Monticello.

Funeral services were today at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with a private burial at the Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens in West Lafayette with full military rites.
