Ethel May Lewis Stiers, 97, formerly of Chalmers, died at 5:48 p.m. Sunday in Lafayette Healthcare Center. She had been a resident there since Aug. 1979.

Born June 10, 1889, in Madison, she moved to Chalmers in 1934 coming from Monon.

Mrs Stiers was a member of Chalmers Community Church and Chalmers Rebekah Lodge.

She married Roy Stiers March 10, 1912, in Monon. He died Sept. 3, 1962.

Surviving are three sons, Bernard P Stiers, Lafayette, Fredric D Stiers, Rossville, Ga., and Kenton "Joe" R Stiers of Lafayette.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. Two sons, 2 sisters and 1 brother preceded in death.

Services were Wednesday at the Chalmers Community Church with Rev Charles Hirschy officiating. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery, Monticello. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of services.
