Herman M. Spear

Herman M. Spear, 83, 213 Argold St., Brookston, died Sunday at 6:20 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi.  He had been a patient there since Nov. 2.

He was born Sept. 4, 1906 to Ambrose and Mattie Emmert Spear, in Monroe County, KY. His first marriage was to Bertha Alice Cain, March 7, 1924, in Tennessee. She died April 3, 1982. His second marriage was to Marie Crace, Sept. 14, 1984, in Brookston. She survives.

He was a retired farmer. He had worked for Ross Gear in Lafayette for 18 years before retiring in 1969.

He came to White County in 1945 and lived in Chalmers from 1952-84, when he moved to Brookston. He was a member of Brookston Church of Christ

Survivors include six daughters, Mrs Arthur (Estell) Shaw, Delphi; Mrs Vincent (Bonnie) Cain, Remington; Mrs Jerry (Wendy) Murphy, Palm Desert, Calif.; Mrs Ivan (Doyle) Logan, Montgomery, Ill.; Mrs Beecher (Nina) Grace,  Brookston and Mrs Larry (Shirley) Weaver, Santa Abam Calif.; three sons, Rester "Dusty", Charles Town, W.Va.; Wayford "Sandy", Indianapolis and Floyd "Denny", Lothian, Md.; four stepsons, Beecher Crace, Brookston; Robert Crace, Oak Hill, Ohio; Steve Crace, Murphyboro, Ta. and Al Crace, Earl Park; two step daughters, Mrs Richard (Shirley) Hughes, Bloomfield and Mrs Dennis (Dora) Reynolds, Battle Ground; two brothers, Harlen and Haney Spear, Tompkinsville, Ky.; a sister, Lovie Rush, Sharpsville; 39 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister are deceased.

The funeral was conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Brookston Church of Christ with Bill Romans and Paul Himes officiating. The Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston was in charge of the service.

Burial was in Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens, West Lafayette.
