Maxine W. Smith
Maxine W. Smith, 77, Rossville, IN., passed away Sunday evening, Feb. 5, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 24, 1918, in Greencastle, to Oscar G. and Ida (Fry) Williams. From age 12, she was reared in the home of her aunt, Hazel P. Williams. She was a graduate of Shortridge High School in Indianapolis and attended the Indiana Business College in Indianapolis.
She was married Dec. 17, 1938, to Joyce S. "Bud"Smith, in Indianapolis, and he survives. Mr and Mrs Smith were residents of the Remington, Ind. area 1939-1964 and had been residents of rural Frankfort and Rossville, Ind., since 1964.
Mrs Smith was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Rossville, Owen Township Extension Homemaker's Club and had been an active member of the Present Day Club at Rossville.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, John S. Smith, Walton, Ind.; three daughters, Patricia S. Sheldon and husband, James C., Greencastle, Ind..; Barbara L. Lawson and husband, Ed, Chalmers, Ind. and Maryanne England and husband, Danny, Lafayette, Ind.; a brother, Charles C. Emerich, Chillicothe, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and a step-greatgrand child. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel.
Funeral services were Wednesday, at 1 p.m. in the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle, with Rev. Allen C. Weldy officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.
