Luther Arnold Smith, 96, of Monon, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, in White Co. Memorial Hospital. He had resided at
Monticello Healthcare Center for 15 months.

He was born Feb. 16, 1902, to Samuel G. and Myrtle Hemphill Smith, in Brown County. He was married March 14, 1934, to Iva L. Jones in Monticello.  She died Oct. 1, 1993.

He had been employed at ALCOA in Lafayette and was retired.  He had been self-employed as a carpenter for several years.  He was also a custodian of the Monon United Methodist Church for 20 years.

He had lived in Monon most of his life.

He was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church.

He is survived by a son, Alvin F. of Monon; two grandchildren; a stcpgrandson; and five great grandchildren.

A sister, two half sisters and two half brothers are deceased.

Funeral services were Friday at Kellogg Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Kehlhofer officiating.

Burial was in Monon Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
