Harriet June Smith

Harriet June Smith, 88, 410 Tioga Rd., a former Monon resident, died Tuesday, August 1, at White Co. Memorial Hospital. She had been in ill health for a year and a resident of Twin Lakes Village since October 1999.

She was born June 2, 1912, to George W. and Bessie E. Engle Hansell, in Medaryville. She was married Oct. I8, 1931, to Wilbur L. Smith in Valparaiso. He died August 11, 1992.

She graduated from Medaryville High School.

She was employed at Schumacher Electric, Rensselaer, for several years and also at Medaryville Garment Factory for several years. She was also a seamstress in her home.

She had lived in the Monon community most of her life.

She was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution), Winanac Chapter.

She is survived by daughters, Thelma Haskins, Monon and Kathryn Cochran of Portage; a brother, Grant Hansell, Chandler, Arizona; 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

A son, daughter, five brothers and sister are deceased.

Funeral services were Saturday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with Rev Steve Birch officiating.

Burial was in White Post Cemetery, Medaryville.

Memorials may be given to the Monon Food Pantry or Monticello CDC.
