Donald E. Sigman, 69 of Monticello died Monday, April 24 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette. He had been hospitalized since April 15th after having a cardiac arrest.
He was born March 4, 1921 in White County, the son of Raymond M and Rowena Lucy Sigman.
He married Marjorie Joann VanMeter on November 13, 1954 in Wolcott. They recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary She survives.
He graduated from Wolcott High School in 1948. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict as a member of the air police. He worked at Sears for 29 years, starting as a delivery man and was the store manager at the time of his retirement. He and his wife then ran the Sears merchandise store for three years. He also worked in real estate and sold continuous guttering.
He was a life member and past Commander of the American Legion. He was also a member of the VFW, DAV, AMVETS and Moose all of Monticello. He was dedicated to helping with the Military Funeral Rites
Surviving besides his wife is a daughter Ruth (Kenny) Magers of Reynolds, IN. two sons, Daniel (Roberta) Sigman of Reynolds and Jeffrey Sigman of Monticello; Grandchildren Jennifer & Brad Shidler of Carroliton, TX; Shane Shidler and Nathan Shidler both of Reynolds; Seth & Skylar Sigman of Monticello. Step grandchildren Allen & Sabrena Magers of Indianapolis; a sister, Betty Cooper of Kokomo, IN and five brothers, Wayne Sigman, Monticello, IN Richard Sigman, Remington. IN, Delbert Sigman, Lakeland, FL, Gordon Sigman, Monon, IN and Larry Sigman of New Orleans, LA
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Bennett officiating. Visitation will be 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home
Burial with full military honors will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Monticello.
