Sterling Green (Pooch) Shepperd, 69, of Monticello, died Saturday, March 19, 2005 at his residence.
He was born in Maggofin County, KY on July 3, 1935 to Perry and Ivory Cole Shepperd.
He married Rosalee Nauris on September 19, 1955 in Hopkinsville, KY. She survives.
He served in the US Army 11th Kentucky, 82nd Airborne Division from 1953-1956 during the Korean Conflict.
He was a timber broker and was a registered forester.
He was a member of AMVETS, FOE, American Legion and the VFW, all in Monticello.
He was a member of Local 150 Operating Engineers in Merrillville.
In his early years, he and his brother Jack had worked as a wrestling tag team.
He was an ordained minister of the Evangelical Church Alliance.
He was a long-time member of the American Motorcycle Association and founded the Sterling MCs club.
He entertained nursing home residents and others as an Elvis Presley impersonator. For many years he provided a special Christmas for a needy family or a terminally ill child.
He lived for many years in the Medaryville area.
Other survivors include daughters Robin (Larry) Sanders of Francesville, JoAnn Hubbard of Monticello, Julie (Steve) Byrd of Logansport and Tammie Shepperd of Monon; a son Timothy Joe Shepperd of Monticello; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Sisters Vera Pollock, Joy Shepperd, Irene Wallen and Vivian Odle and brothers Roger Ford Shepperd Vennus Jack Shepperd and Vernon Shepperd are deceased.
Funeral services were this morning at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville with burial in Highland Cemetery in North Judson.
