Harold Stephan Shell

Harold Stephan Shell, 76, of Chalmers died on Tuesday, July 31, 2001, and was found on Sunday, August 5, 2001 on the family farm where he had been mowing.

He was born October 24, 1924, in the Chalmers farmhouse in which he lived to Beryl C. and Helen Irene Stephan Shell. He married Ruth H. Kepp on August 15, 1959, in Monticello. She died February 12, 1994.

He was a 1942 graduate of Chalmers High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II who served on the USS Wayne from 1944-48.

He was a farmer and took over the family farm from his father in 1958.

He was a member of Chalmers Community Church.

He was a 50-year member of Chalmers American Legion Post 268, where he was a past commander. He served for nine years on the White County ASCS Committee and was a member of the National Farmers Organization.

He was a founding member of the Lake Freeman Ski Club.

Surviving are two sons; Steven (Christy) Shell of Cincinnati and Rob (Jill) Shell of Kalamazoo MI; one daughter Beverly (Scott) Fudge of Indianapolis; two sisters, Juanita (Ray) Culver of Chalmers and Evelyn (Philip Jr.) Magner of Wabash and four grandchildren.

A steprother and his stepmother, May Shank Shell are deceased.

Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. today at the Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the Chalmers Community Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church with Pastor Bill Henderson officiating.

Burial with military rites by Chalmers American Legion will be at the Chalmers Community Cemetery.
