Betty Ellen Downs Sears, 74, formerly of Crawfordsville, died Sept. 18, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia, N.C.

She was born March 24, 1924, to Homer and Edith Austin Downs, in White County.

She was a retired receptionist for Dr. Richard Eggers.

She is survived by three sons, Jerry of Lebanon; Terry of Indianapolis and Don of Centralia, Ill.; two daughters, Connie Gaviola, Crawfordsville and Kathy Romig of Gastonia, NC.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son and a brother.

Graveside services were Tuesday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Brookston, with the Rev. Leland McReynolds officiating.

Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge.
