Roy G. Scruggs, 71, 410 S. Davis St., Brookston, died Sunday morning, Feb. 12, at Home Hospital, Lafayette.
He was
born Dec. 24, 1923 in Clinton, TN to Bert and Carrie Ridenour Scruggs.
He married
Wilma
K. Hague on July 25, 1942 in Lafayette, and she survives.
He served 35 years as a firefighter. He was the former fire chief of the Prairie Township Volunteer Fire Department. He owned and operated the Conoco Service Station. He was a maintenance worker and janitor at the Brookston school for 20 years before retiring in Dec. 1986.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
His family moved to Indiana when he was 15 months old. He graduated from Round Grove Township High School in 1942.
Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Sharon Scruggs of Friendwood, TX; two sons, Glenn of Brookston and Bruce of Huntsville, TX; one sister, Mrs. Warren (Margaret) Oilar of Brookston; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A son, Vernon, and a brother, Edward Scruggs, are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, the Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating. A firefighter's memorial service was scheduled for 8 p.m. Wednesday. Feb. 15.
Burial will be at the Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.
