Virgil W. Scowden

Virgil W. Scowden, 87, Williamsport, a former Battle Ground resident, died Friday, June 29, at Country Care, Williamsport. He had been in falling [sic] health for the past year.

He was born March 7, 1914, to Everett and Goldie Emerich Scowden, in Americus.

He was a 1933 graduate of Battle Ground High School and moved from Battle Ground to Williamsport in 1970.

He was an antique dealer, appraiser, interior decorator and wallpaper hanger. He restored old churches and other buildings and sold antiques from his home in Battle Ground and later in Williamsport.

Surviving are many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Five brothers, Vene, Vole, James Glen and Rudolph Scowden, are deceased.

Funeral services were Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Cleo Ewing officiating.

Burial was in Pretty Prairie Cemetery near Battle Ground.

Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
