Charles Steven "Steve" Schetzsle, 55, of West Lafayette died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 2, 2003. He was pronounced dead at 2:45 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Medical Center after suffering a heart attack while at work at Harrison High School in West Lafayette.
He was born February 24, 1948 in Lafayette, the son of John H. and Evelyn L. Schetzsle. He married Deanna Jane Baer on October 6, 1973 and she survives.
He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and received his master's degree in education from Purdue University.
He had lived in the Lafayette area most of his life, but he also had lived in Monon and Brookston.
He was the assistant principal at Harrison High School. He had previously been principal at North White and had been a teacher at Frontier Middle School. He taught driver's education and was a Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Deputy.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed school plays and traveling.
Surviving are a son, Jeffrey S. Schetzsle, at home; three daughters, Stacey L. Schetzsle, Lesley A. Schetzsle and Amy B. Schetzsle all of West Lafayette; his mother, Evelyn L. Schetzsle of Lafayette; four sisters, Bonnie Clayton of Ohio, Betty Bongen of Alaska, Becky Rottler of Lafayette and Brenda Kelley of Mulberry and five brothers, John Schetzsle of Ohio, Tony Schetzsle of Colorado, Tom Schetzsle of Oregon, Bob Schetzsle of Michigan and Brad Schetzsle of Iowa.
His father preceded him in death.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 5, 2003 at Calvary Baptist Church, West Lafayette with Pastor Chuck Grant officiating. Hippensteel Funeral Home was in charge of the service.
Burial was in Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens.
