Opal Sue Sandefur


Mrs Opal Sue Gilbert Sandefur, 77. of Mocksville, North Carolina, formerly of Monon, passed away early Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

Mrs Sandefur was born Oct 7, 1921, in Claiborne County, Tenn. To the late Franklin Roscoe and Nola Marie Williams Gilbert and was preceded in death by an infant brother Burton Gilbert. She moved to North Carolina in 1986, and was a retail sales clerk and was employed with Walmart for the past 6 years.

She was a member of Turrenline Baptist Church. Mrs Sandefur was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, James Roy Sandefur; a daughter, Patsy Roach and husband David of Mocksville; a granddaughter, Carroll Roach of Atlanta, Ga.; six sisters, Edith Brooks of Harrogate, Tenn., Geneva Shackelford of Simmsonville, S.C.; Bea Monday of Brooksville, IN.; Thelma Ray, Bobbie Burke and Frankie Crawford all of Monroe, MI.; three brothers, Roy Gilbert of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Harry Gilbert of Huron, OH and Marvin Gilbert of Zionsville, IN.; several nieces and nephews.

Services were Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 11 a.m. in Terrentine Baptist Church with the Dr. Gary Chapman and the Rev. Billy Slope officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Dade Funeral Home was in charge.
