Burdell E. "Solly" Salomon. 72, of Reynolds, died at 3:48 p.m., Thursday. Oct. 14, 1999, at Home Hospital, Lafayette.
He was born Jan. 24, 1927, to Carl F. and Mabel Moore Salomon, in Monticello. He was married Sept. 9, 1956, to Glenda J. Pyle. in Monticello. She survives.
He graduated from Monticello High School and attended Purdue University, where he was named Outstanding Ag Student during his freshman year.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany during World War II and in Korea :during the Korean Conflict. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
He opened Solly's Restaurant in Reynolds in 1952, and owned and operated the restaurant until his retirement in 1995.
He dedicated his life to the betterment of the Reynolds community. He served on the former Reynolds Economic Develop ment Commission and was instrumental in starting the Reynolds Youth Baseball League, which he also helped sponsor for many years. He was also instrumental in the building of the Reynolds Recreational Complex.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Monticello.
He was a 49-year member of the Chalmers American Legion Post and was a charter member of the Reynolds VFW Post.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters. Mrs Larry (Gail) Monnett, Brookston and Mrs James (Amy) Borgetti of Saint John: three sons. Stephan E. (Julie) Salomon, Reynolds, Fritz C. (Melissa) Salomon, Monticello and William F. Salomon, Lafayette; two sisters, Mrs William (Lois) Paugh of Rushville and Mrs David (Nancy) Elmore of New Hampshire; five grandsons, Neil Salomon, Robbie Salomon, Scott Borgetti, David Borgetti and Carl Salomon; and three granddaughters, Kathy Salomon, Sarah Borgetti and Michelle Salomon.
Funeral services were Sunday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello, with the Rev. James R. Copeland officiating
Burial, with military rites, was at Riverview IOOF Cemetery, Monticello.
Memorials may be given to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Reynolds Recreational Complex or the Reynolds United Methodist Church.
