Marie
D. Shrode Roy, 76, formerly of 403 Prairie St., Brookston, died Monday,
Oct. 1, at 3:50 a.m. in Lafayette Healthcare Center, Lafayette. She had
been a patient there since June 4 and in failing health for the last several
months.
She was born Feb. 6, 1914, to Fred J. and Louise M. Jorgensmeir Shrode, in Stonefort, Ill. She was married Jan. 15, 1940, to Richard H. Roy who died in May 1965.
She was a graduate of F.J. Reitz High School and attended · Evansville College. She and her husband owned and operated Roy's Variety and Department Store for 30 years in Evansville.
After moving from Evansville, she lived in Brookston for the last six years.
She was a member of the Brookston United Methodist Church and Evansville Daughters of the Nile.
Survivors include two sons, Richard W., Evansville and Stephen, Rt.1, Battle Ground; four grandchildren. A son, Charles and three brothers are deceased.
The funeral and burial was conducted today at 1 p.m., at Oak Hill Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, Evansville.
Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of the service.
