Mary Rachel Ferguson Robinson

Mary Rachel Ferguson Robinson, 99, formerly of Rt. I, Battle Ground, died Wednesday, April 13, in Home Hospital Extended Care Unit, Lafayette.  She was admitted there two years ago.

She was born on Feb. 20, 1895 in Prairie Township, White County, to Edgar m Ferguson and Clara Russell. She married Clarence O. Robinson on March 19, 1917 in Monticello. He died May 1, 1981.

She was a homemaker and former teacher and lived in the Brookston area all her life. Her father served as trustee of Prairie Town ship from 1914-1917.

She graduated from the Brookston Academy and attended Indiana Normal College in Danville for a summer term. She began teaching that fall at Gay School, 5 miles east of Brookston, She later taught the sixth grade at Brookston School before she married.

She and her husband lived on the Robinson family farm, homesteaded in 1856, southwest of Brookston.

She was a member of the Brookston United Methodist Church, the Ladies Elks of Lafayette, the New Ideal Club, and was past president of Brookston American Legion Auxiliary No.251.

Survivors include two sons, Robert G. of Brookston and Kean E. of Brookston; and three daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Barbara Joan) Schmidt of Niles, MI, Mrs. Donald (Marilyn June) Anderson of Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Paul (Meredith Ann) Cox of Indianapolis; one sister, Mrs. Alta Johnson of Lafayette; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jo Robinson Moore of Brookston, 23 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Three sons, two daughters, five brothers, three sisters, one grandson, and two great-grandsons are deceased.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 16, at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston, the Rev. Bonnie Lieber officiated.

Burial was in IOOF Brookston Cemetery.
