Dale R. Richardson

Dale R. Richardson, 82, Brookston, formerly of Monon, died Thursday, Oct. 8, at 2:50 p.m. at Lafayette Healthcare Center, Lafayette.

He was born Dec. 27, 1915, to Joseph H. and Minnie Bell Stephens Richardson, in Monon. He was married June 14, 1941, to Ethel Parthena Smith, in Monon, and she survives.

He had moved to Brookston from Monon in 1987.

He graduated from Monon High School in 1934.

He worked as a parts manager for Gutwein Motors for 17 years and was the Monon Postmaster for 18 years, retiring in 1980.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Brookston United Methodist Church.

He was the first World War II veteran to be admitted to the American Legion in Indiana and was a member of the American Legion Post 319 in Monon.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Mrs Charles Jerilynn Burgess of Indianapolis and Mrs Francis Kay Franscoviak, Battle Ground; two sons, James Joseph, Bremen and Dale Ray II of Eugene, Oregon; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two stepgranddaughters.
 

Three sisters and a brother are deceased.

Funeral services were Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston.

Burial was in the Bedford Cemetery, Monon.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Long Center for the Performing Arts.
