R. Jack Reynolds

R. Jack Reynolds, 78, Brookston, died at his home on Saturday, September 21, 2002, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Jefferson Township in Carroll County to Dewey and Esther Roth Reynolds on December 23, 1923.

He married Helen Redding in Gulfport Miss., on May 30, 1943. She survives.

He was a 1942 graduate of Monticello High School.

He served in World War II in the 8th Air Force, 466th Bomb group from January 1943 to September 1945. He was a flight engineer and tail gunner of crew #726 of the "Glad to See Ya" B-24 bomber and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He also received a "Special Diploma' from the French government for his contribution to the liberation of France.

He worked many years as a production manager in Monticello and Delphi and was owner and operator for 17 years of For-Rest Lake Campground. He retired in 1986.

He was a lifetime member and former chaplain of the Brookston Optimist Club.

He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed baking pancakes for the Homeowners Association, a good game of euchre and deer hunting with his sons mid grandchildren.

He was a member of the Brookston Federated Church. Where he served as Sunday school superintendent and deacon for many years.

He was also a member of North Port Christian Church in North Port, Fla., where he and his wife spent winter months and served as a deacon and trustee there.

Surviving with his wife are three sons, Robert B. "Bruce" (Diann) Reynolds, Forrest N. "Nick" (Linda) Reynolds and James L. "Jim" (Connie) Reynolds all of Brookston, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A son, Terry Lee Reynolds, and a sister Marie preceded him in death.

The funeral service was this morning (Wednesday) at Hartzler Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds officiating.

Burial was in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery with a military service by the Chalmers American Legion.
