Harold "Gus" Reed

Harold Miller "Gus" Reed, 81, R.1, Chalmers, died Tuesday, April 17, at 12:25 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Lafayette. He had been hospitalized one day and in failing health for the past year.

He was born Nov. 28, 1908, in Logansport and moved to Canada in 1913, with his parents. He lived at Loreburn, Saskatchewan, Canada, until1957, moving to Chalmers.

Mr Reed farmed in Canada and Chalmers, until retiring in 1982.

He was educated in Canada and attended the College ot Arts and Science, University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.

He was always competetive in athletics, participating in baseball and curling, a game played on ice by sliding a flat stone at a mark, while in Canada. After retiring he enjoyed golf and made a hole in one, at the age of 78.

His family were founding members of Bonnieview Presbyterian Church in Canada. He attended United Church of Canada In Loreburn. He became an active member of Chalmers Community Church and was on the church board, after moving to Chalmers.

Mr Reed was master of Elbow View Masonic Lodge in Saskatchewan twice and 32nd degree Mason of Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis.

He was married Sept. 26, 1934, to Ann Katherine McCreight, in Canada. She survives along with a son, Rev Jason Reed, Naperville, Illinois.

Memorial service was Saturday, at 2 p.m., in Chalmers Community Church, with the Rev Loren Shuman officiating.

A private inurnment service was Friday at Meadow Lake Cemetery south of Wolcott.

Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge.
