Bertie D. Redding
 

Bertie D. Marshall Smith Redding, 87, formerly of Brookston, died Saturday, May 25, in Heritage Healthcare Center, West Lafayette. She had been a patient there since March.

She was born May 16, 1904, to Elbert S. and Nora Tedlock Marshall, in Clinton County. She was. married in 1926, to Glen R. Smith who died in 1937. She then was married Sept. 7, 1946, to Cecil Redding, who died June 16, 1971.

She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1921, and received a teaching certificate from Ball State Teachers College.

Since 1946, she had lived in the Brookston area.

She retired from elementary teaching in 1964 and had taught in Clinton and White counties.

She was a member of  Brookston Federated Church and a former Sunday school teacher of the Philathea Class.  Also, she was a member of the sewing circle at the church and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.  She was a former member of the Worthwhile Club.

Survivors include a son, Robert Smith, Rosewell, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs Mary Jo Bell, Wilmington, N.C. and Mrs Ann Kiger, R.1, Brookston; a sister, Mrs Mary Slick, Edinburgh; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.  A brother is deceased.

The funeral was Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Ed. Summerfield officiating.

Burial was in Geetingsville Cemetery.
