Ira B. Qualls, 72, 601 Ripley St., Brookston, was dead on arrival at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Lafayette at 2:28 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, apparently of a heart attack.
He was a mechanic for 35 years and retired in 1981 from Halstead Implement in Brookston.
He was born Feb. 28, 1916, in Hustonville, Kentucky, and had lived in the Brookston area for the past 40 years. He was married June 14, 1937, to Marjorie E. Nice, in Liberty, Kentucky. She survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs Lois Marie Pickett, Battle Ground; Mrs David (Sandra) Maas, Brookston; Mrs William (Carolyn) Ferguson, Lafayette and Mrs Ruby Smith, Frankfort; his mother, Mrs Amanda Qualls, Hustonville; and four sisters, Mrs Mary Russell and Miss Elizabeth Qualls, both of Hustonville; Mrs Charles (Patricia) Murrell, Burlington, Ky. and Mrs Francis (Margaret) Morris, Flora. Eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren also survive. A son; Robert Eugene Qualls, 2 sisters, one grandson preceded in death.
Service was at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev Gene Ansell officiating.
Interment was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
